Review: ‘Oblivion’ is an action-filled sci-fi trip with a great story

04-26-13 Oblivion movie posterAlthough at the beginning, the “Olivion” seems like it will be an average action flick, additional layers are continuously added through its two-hour length, adding depth not only to the story but the world in which it is set. This is a movie that feels much longer than its runtime, and that is not a problem at all, allowing time to develop the characters and situations while also providing transitions between the major events so the finished product doesn’t feel like simply a series of plot turns.

By the time we get to the final act, there’s an investment that feels earned and it is that investment that makes the film work so well.

“Oblivion” has an intriguing story to tell, and tells it in a beautiful and adventurous way. Thankfully, the marketing team allowed the audience to see that story in the theatre, rather than in the commercials.

The film is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, brief strong language, and some sensuality/nudity.
