County workers call proposed raises ‘unfair’

    Posted on September 23, 2015

Upset over the Taylor County Commission’s decision to set a $10.50 “minimum wage” for its own workforce, about 20 county employees, most of whom would not see a pay bump under the proposal, filled the board’s second and final budget hearing Monday to call the move unfair.

In the county’s 2015- 16 budget, which commissioners tentatively approved last week, the board allocated funds to increase any employee making less than $10.50 an hour up to that amount, a decision which would affect approximately 30 employees, mostly in the county road and solid waste departments. Including constitutional officers, such as the sheriff and clerk of court, there are about 200 total county employees.
