A suspected tornado damaged two homes on U.S. 27 in Perry Friday morning as a weather system moved through the area, knocking out power to approximately 4,000 for several hours.

Although weather officials in Tallahassee have classified it as “a straight-line wind event” based on radar, the residents’ description of the weather, as well as several trees which appear to have been twisted and broken, suggest it was a tornado.

PHOTO: Bill and Maggie Gunter were home when a suspected tornado grazed treetops and overturned two free-standing carports in their yard. Limbs from an ancient oak crashed to the ground while whirling winds uprooted patio furniture and left it in a jumbled pile.
