Waiting for the next race, Bobby Hall reminded his 11-year-old son Gino that he had to finish at least in third place in order to qualify for the national Junior Olympics competition.

“He was coming around the last curve and was in seventh place. I saw something in his eyes and it clicked in him,” Hall said.
Gino’s competitive spirit ignited and propelled him from seventh to third place in the qualifying heat. He told his dad that next time he wouldn’t be happy to finish in third place–he was going to be first.
