    Janice Merle Phillips

    Janice Merle Phillips, 82, of Warm Springs, Ga., formerly of Perry, died Tuesday, May 8, at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Ga.

    Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, at 11 a.m., at Macedonia Baptist Church in Manchester, Ga., with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

    Janice was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Panama City, to John T. Burgans and Bessie Anderson Burgans. She married James Milton Phillips on Oct. 12, 1957, and lived most of her life in Perry, where she was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. She retired from the Taylor County Public Library after 20 years of service, traveling across Taylor County as the Book Mobile Lady.

    After her husband’s death, she moved to Warm Springs, Ga. in 2002 and eventually joined Macedonia Baptist Church. Janice loved to fish, enjoyed arrowhead hunting and reading and was an avid book collector.

    She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; her daughter, Cheri Cook Farrell; a granddaughter, Lacey Morgan; and two brothers, Theron Burgans and Cecil McAllister.

    Survivors include: her children, Pepper Connell (Clint) of Warm Springs, Scarlet Morgan (David) of Perry and Ben Phillips (Kim) of Gainesville; nine grandchildren, Nick Farrell (Debra) of Panama City, Zak Morgan (Chelsea) of Perry, Rhett Morgan (Katie) of Perry, Brekley Morgan of Perry, Ashlyn Morgan Perry (Randy) of Perry, Hunter Connell (Jasen) of Athens, Ga., Vicci Connell of Warm Springs, Brandon Phillips of Gainesville and Lauren Phillips of Gainesville; nine great-grandchildren, Casen Heartsfield, Ella McAdams, Tyson Morgan, Ana Claire Summerlin, Lanee McAdams, Kaidyn Morgan, Libby Mae Morgan, Addie Knight and Baylee Morgan, all of Perry.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Janice may be made to: Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
