Rotary District 6940 Governor Ted Kirchharr visited the Perry Rotary Club last week, updating members on Rotary’s efforts across the district (which runs from Live Oak to Pensacola) and the world.

On Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio, he noted that when the organization started in the 1980s, there were 360,000 new cases per year, and through the end of June of this year, there have been fewer than 200 new cases in three endemic countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. He also called for a moment of silence to remember the 20 aid workers killed this year while attempting to administer the polio vaccine.

Following the meeting, the club gave Kirchharr a tour of the community, including Perry Rotary Club-sponsored projects such as the splashpad at Rosehead Park and Heritage Pavilion at Forest Capital State Park.
