Paul McNutt, 71, testified in his own defense Thursday morning telling the jury his side of the story and the series of events Dec. 5, 2011, that resulted in the death of two men and the maiming of a third.

The accused double-murderer spent nearly 90 minutes on the stand, answering a series of questions that drew a picture of a once-neighborly relationship between his family and the Spees. It was a relationship, he said, which deteriorated as conflict over a 30-foot dirt road escalated.

PHOTO: Paul McNutt, left, testified on his own behalf Thursday morning, stating he had no recollection of the shooting which left two Perry men dead and a third maimed for life. The 71-year-old said he feared for his wife’s life and felt she was in danger in the minutes leading up to the shooting. The jury was continuing its deliberations as of presstime Thursday afternoon.
