    Storm of the Century: ‘An all-around horrible day’

    The Storm of the Century, which claimed 10 lives along the Taylor County coast 20 years ago this week, left an indelible mark on both the landscape and the lives touched by the “no name” storm.

    This included not only the residents who were forced to brave the storm during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 13, 1993, but also the first responders who arrived soon thereafter to begin search and rescue operations.

    One such first responder was Taylor County Sheriff’s Deputy Marty Tompkins, who was a captain with Taylor County Fire-Rescue at the time.
