Some 11 officers at Taylor Correctional Institution (TCI) received personal letters of thanks from Gov. Rick Scott Monday in recognition of their “heroic actions” in saving the life of a fellow officer who was attacked and nearly beaten to death by an inmate.

The letters were prompted by another letter the governor recently received from the officer whose life was saved, Sgt. (ret.) Phillip Castelucci.
