Fate of Steinhatchee’s middle school decided Friday, June 28

Steinhatchee’s six, seventh and eighth graders face the possibility of a 10-to-11-hour-day in the coming school year if the Taylor County School Board opts to close the community’s middle school and bus its students to Perry for classes.

The recommendation to shuttle middle school classes in Steinhatchee was triggered by poor performances that have the school on the brink of receiving an “F” grade from the Department of Education (DOE) (final schools grades—based on FCAT scores—are expected to be released this summer).
