And the latest offering, “I, Frankenstein,” is one of those movies. With the looks of another generic fantasy action flick, the movie establishes its pretty basic setup and then lets the pieces race across the gameboard for a lean 93 minutes while the audience sits back and enjoys the ride.
It doesn’t hurt that the film, directed by Stuar Beattie (“Tomorrow, When the War Began”), features three actors who I very much enjoy watching: Aaron Eckart (“The Dark Knight”), Bill Nighy (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”) and Yvonne Strahovski (“Chuck”).
Don’t go into this one looking for a lot of depth, but as I often say, I don’t expect many folks are buying a ticket to a film called “I, Frankenstein,” with battling demons and gargoyles, for depth. This kind of movie can only be popcorn entertainment, and for my 93 minutes, it provided just that.
The film is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense fantasy action and violence throughout.
