“Becoming a school board member is something that I’ve spent years in preparation for, most of them without realizing the path my life was taking. I started out as a parent volunteer 25 years ago. While some years breezed along in perfect bliss, others have been plagued by hard issues with no easy answers. In those hard times, while seeking answers, I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience and, at some point, the desire to serve the district. In recent years, while researching the causes of the district’s struggle to successfully fund Steinhatchee School, I quickly realized this is a systemic problem and one of many problems facing the district,” Mathis said.
