Although conditions have improved somewhat along the Steinhatchee River after excessive rainfall last weekend caused the river to rise 10 feet in just 48 hours, much of the flooding in the community has no where to escape and is continuing to cause major problems for residents.
According to Taylor County Emergency Management Director Steve Spradley, more than 40 homes in and around Steinhatchee have been affected by the flooding and many roads remained closed as of Thursday.

(CERT). Shown above, CERT member Stan Ridgeway makes his way through the flood waters. CERT members, along with Taylor County Emergency Management Coordinator Kristy Anderson, will be at the Steinhatchee fire house this Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. to hand out bottled water and clean-up kits donated by the Salvation Army.
