City Council extends talks on 82% pay raise Tuesday

There was little outcry in October 2003 when the Perry City Council looked to give itself a hefty raise, with only one member of the public speaking against the proposal.

Stating that at that time, it had been 30 years since the council had a pay increase, members approved doubling their salary—from $5,839 to $12,000.
