The 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season came to an end Monday, marking the 10th consecutive year Florida has avoided a direct hurricane strike.
In total, the season, which began June 1, produced 11 named storms, including four hurricanes, two of which became major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher). This was slightly higher than some forecasts but within the range predicted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center prior to the season.
