The first general primary election for local offices is more than seven months away, but candidates are not wasting time before tossing their political hats into the ring.
The majority of incumbents in constitutional offices have already registered with the elections office. Supervisor of Elections Dana Southerland (D) took the lead, declaring her candidacy early in January. Tax Collector Mark Wiggins (D), Sheriff L.E. “Bummy” Williams (D) and Property Appraiser Bruce Ratliff (D) have quickly followed suit.
