    Residents urged to remain vigilant about mosquitoes with 16 Zika cases in Florida

    Although this week’s cold weather has mosquitoes far from most people’s minds, local and state health officials are asking residents to remain vigilant about potential mosquito breeding grounds–namely standing water–with seven counties in Florida still under a declared public health emergency concerning the Zika virus.

    To date, there have been 16 travel-associated cases of Zika reported in Florida: six in Miami-Dade County, three in Hillsborough County, two each in Broward and Lee counties and one each in Osceola, Santa Rosa and St. Johns counties.
