For the past several years, the television sketch comedy world has been ruled by “Key & Peele,” which managed to bring laughs and shocked expressions by tackling just about every topic you could think of, regardless of how apparently taboo it might be. Then, after five seasons and 53 episodes, the show ended last September.

It’s no surprise that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, the comedic duo behind the series, are now making the jump to film with the movie “Keanu.”

he transition from short sketch comedy to feature-length movies, however, is one fraught with both danger and plenty of disasters.

Fortunately, “Keanu” manages to dodge these pitfalls and is a hilarious movie, producing laughs from nearly start to finish.

Comedy Central has posted plenty of clips form “Key & Peele” on Youtube, and most of them have logged millions of views. But, in the realm of the internet, there is only one true king: cats.

Combine the two, and you have “Keanu,” in which Key and Peele play cousins Clarence and Rell. As the movie opens, Rell is trying unsuccessfully to get over a break-up when he finds a kitten which he names Keanu. He bonds with the cat and his life seemingly turns around, at least until his apartment is broken into and Keanu is stolen.

If you’re a fan of “Key & Peele,” the duo’s comedy style comes through here and should provide plenty of hilarious entertainment. Even if you’re not a fan of their show, if you’re looking for a good comedy in a time when there are not a lot of quality options at the theater, this is definitely one you should check out.

The film is rated R for violence, language throughout, drug use and sexuality/nudity.
