Firefighters battling on two fronts

Wildland firefighters with the Florida Forest Service continue battling two wildfires ignited by lightning in Taylor County: The Tide Swamp Fire located in the Big Bend Wildlife Management Area near Dallus Creek and the Powerline Bay Fire located in San Pedro Bay near Day.

The Tide Swamp Fire remains 75 percent contained. Thursday’s objectives were to increase the containment percentage and begin mop-up operations to cool down the fire’s perimeter.  Crews will cut new lines around parts of the 1,032-acre perimeter to maintain control and suppression.
