    Short story contest winners announced

    The Friends of the Taylor County Public Library has announced the winners of its 10th annual Short Story Contest.

    The contest received a total of 21 stories in three age categories: youth (grades five and below), student (grades six through 12) and adult.

    In the youth category, Variah Dunnell took first place for the story, “Monster House,” followed by Landon Burford with “Living Off the Land with My Friend” in second place. Honorable mentions went to Chase Barnes for “The Kid Who Loved Baseball” and for Rudra Patel for “Me and My Friend.”

    In the student category, Katie Ricketson won first place for the story “Flashback” with Amanda Coxwell placing second for the story “The Mark of Love.” Honorable mentions went to Nicole Davis for “Real Life Adventure” and Kinsey Goodman for “Kidnapped at Claude Middle School.”

    In the adult category, Billy K. Hillhouse won first place for his story “Little Men” and earned honorable mention for “Hand Me Downs.” Naomi Sharpe won second place for the story “Andrews Academy.
