Just days before her 19th birthday, Taylor County teen Kasey Lukens was diagnosed with medulloblastoma—a malignant brain tumor. She and her family barely had time to absorb the news before Lukens was in the operating room for what would be the first of three surgeries in a span of just four days.
Now, one year later, Lukens’ cancer journey continues with what she and doctors hope will be her last round of chemotherapy treatments.
While Lukens–who is the 2013 Taylor County Relay For Life Honorary Youth Chair–was unable to attend this year’s Survivors Reception hosted by the Relay For Life Committee, her voice was heard loud and clear thanks to her mother, Janet Lukens, and family friend Deidra Newman.
