When news of the death of bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley emerged last week, you might not have connected the dots all the way back to Perry.
But the connection is real for Bill and Carter Stanley, nephews of the pioneer musician who died June 23 at the age of 89. Considered “enormously influential” in musical circles, Ralph Stanley had already been presented an honorary doctorate, added to the International Bluegrass Hall of Honor in 1992 and the Grand Ole Opry in 2000.
