The Taylor County Commission will hold its third scheduled budget workshop today (Wednesday) as the board continues work on reducing a nearly $500,000 deficit in the proposed budget for next year while also determining if there are funds available for employee raises.
At the board’s first budget workshop, held Monday, July 18, commissioners learned that the county’s taxable value fell more than $41 million, or roughly three percent, resulting in a $291,000 decrease in tax revenues in the county’s general fund along with a $47,000 drop in the MSTU fund. (The MSTU ad valorem tax is levied on properties in the unincorporated area of the county for services also provided by the City of Perry, including fire protection, building and planning, and animal control.)
