The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Steinhatchee River, which has risen more than seven feet since Thursday morning when the county started being impacted by Hurricane Hermine.
According to the advisory, the Steinhatchee River at U.S. 19 was at 12.6 feet at 3:45 p.m. Minor flood stage is 12.2 feet.
The forecast calls for the river to continue to rise to near 16.2 feet by Saturday afternoon, which would put into moderate flood stage, and then begin falling.
“At 12.2 feet: Water begins to flood downstream at Steinhatchee Falls Park,” the advisory stated. “Minor flooding of roads begins along River Road NE. Water will begin to encroach onto the yards of residences in the Ancient Oaks Community in Steinhatchee.”
