With many coastal residents still unable to live in their homes after the destruction left behind by Hurricane Hermine, the United Way of the Big Bend has partnered with Taylor County Emergency Management to establish a special fund for those wishing to make tax-deductible donations to help.
Joining forces with the local church community, specifically First Baptist Church of Steinhatchee and Pastor Leon Holden, they have already been able to begin repairs on eight homes, with Georgia- Pacific providing funds to purchase materials and the church supplying skilled labor.

A citizens’ committee has been established to oversee the disbursement of the funds.
