The Taylor County Historical Society wants to put an extra sparkle in your holiday season this year: the group is hosting the first Taylor County Christmas Light Competition.
Participants must submit their names, address and the name of the display (if there is a specific theme) for inclusion on a special map being produced with the help of the Taylor County property appraiser’s office.
“We are also encouraging local churches and communities to host displays. Once we have all of the participants, we’ll then give out maps with the locations. Pick your favorites and return the forms to the Historical Society. The winners will be determined by the numbers of votes received,” President J.T. Davis said.
Categories include: best overall display; most unique; best religious display; and most lights. Winners will be announced Friday, Dec.23.
“We have been celebrating Taylor County’s 160th founding anniversary all year long. Dec. 23 is the actual date our county was established by the legislature,” Davis said.
A traveling trophy will be awarded to the overall winner. Additional prizes will also be presented.
