    Officials backtrack: FEMA notice not as bad as it seemed?

    Local officials are backtracking on comments made last week about the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its requirement that those who received assistance for flood damage must now secure insurance.

    Last week, Taylor County Emergency Management Director Steve Spradley told the Perry News- Herald that people whose property was located within a Special Hazard Flood Zone had started receiving letters from FEMA stating that they had 30 days to secure flood insurance or they would have to return any money they had already received.

    But that is not the case. At least not exactly.
