‘World Guy’ walks through Perry

He was hard to miss: a lone man with a dog by his side walking along U.S 98 into Perry Monday morning pushing a giant inflatable globe. His name is Erik Bendl, but he goes by the handle World Guy, and he’s walking to raise awareness of diabetes, a disease which claimed his mother when she was in her 50s. Asked about his journey, Bendl’s said his current leg began in Pensacola and he is enroute to Tampa. In recent years he and his dog Nice–both in name and demeanor–have walked in more than 30 states to help diabetes organizations and encourage people to get healthy with exercise to control and prevent diabetes.
