After a nearly unprecedented string of successes, Pixar Animation Studios has been rather hit or miss over the past several years, ranging from the wonderful “Inside Out” to the disappointing “The Good Dinosaur,” with “Finding Dory” and “Cars 3” somewhere in the middle.
Fortunately, when Pixar hits, they really hit. Such is the case with “Coco,” their latest animated film, this time seeped in the culture and heritage of Mexico, with a specific focus on Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead. It features that patented Pixar mix of fun adventure, smart writing and true emotions, not to mention a few tears by the end.
