    Kenneth Ray Padgett

    Posted on December 1, 2017

Kenneth Ray “Cowboy” Padgett, 70, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2017. He was born May 11, 1947, in Perry to the late Arthur Padgett and Eunice Murray Padgett Williams.
Kenny was a retired ironworker and of the Pentecostal faith. As a young teen, he took on the role of “man of house” and supported his mother and sisters after his father passed away.
He met and wed Virginia Davis in 1967.
He had a magic touch with his horses; it was like he knew what they were thinking. Beginning in November, when hunting season came around, it was hard to find him anywhere except in the woods. Kenny loved his game fowl and earned the nickname “Bandit” by leaving the gathering sideways.
In his younger years his passion was bull riding and bull-dogging, where he could be found most weekends.
Kenny was preceded in death by: his parents; his daughter, Cindy Gail Padgett; and sister, Geraldine Brown Shaw.
He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Virginia Padgett; daughters, Kenya Hooppell (Steven), Dana Padgett (John Sparks) and Alex Stephens, all of Perry; grandchildren, Christina Gipson, Kristen McDonald (Eric), Kacy Rhodes (Daniel), Ronnie (Ron-Ron) Ronald Gipson Jr. (Courtney), Kenneth (Kenny Bob) Stephens (Erin), Zandria (Pooter) Stephens and Emmaleah Hooppell; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lucky Lewis, Shirley Blair, Mary Jane Cannon, Linda Brickey and Nancy Padgett; and a brother, Linson Williams.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home in Perry with Brother Glenn Cruce officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Warrior Cemetery.
