Typing was a skill Ralph Carlton didn’t think would play a major role in his future when he sat in front of his first typewriter while a student at Foley School.
He planned to become a radio mechanic and operator. But shortly after he arrived at the National Youth Administration School in Ocala, the building where the classes were taught burned.
PHOTO: Former Clerk of Court Ralph Carlton, who turns 93 next week, still lives at the homestead where he was born and raised with his seven brothers and sisters. He retired from public service in 1988 after serving seven consecutive terms, but returned to work alongside current Clerk of Court Annie Mae Murphy shortly after her election in 1992. He retired a second time Friday, Dec. 29.
