Sixteen months after Hurricane Hermine damaged Hickory Mound, work will finally begin this week, further restricting access to the site for at least the next four months.
According to officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, public access will be temporarily closed on select roads and dikes of the Big Bend Wildlife Management Area’s Hickory Mound Unit due to the construction repair.
