At the urging of Fish Creek property owner Dr. Kenneth Hutchins, county commissioners are planning to rank a list of coastal properties being considered for purchase using Taylor County’s $12.66 million share of RESTORE Act funds generated from a settlement stemming from the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Hutchins appeared at the county’s Jan. 16 meeting to complain that Taylor County’s list of potential property acquisitions ranks at the bottom of 69 projects submitted by all 23 Gulf counties and that Taylor has not been represented at several recent meetings held by the Gulf Consortium.
