Roy Mack Crews Sr., 73, died Feb. 8, 2018, at his home in Perry. Roy was born Aug. 21,1944, in Alma, Ga., to James Curtis Crews Sr. and Vera Ethel Johnson Crews Waters.
Roy attended Bacon County High School in Georgia before transferring to Taylor County High School. He then began working at Sport-Craft where he worked his way up to the position of plant manager. During that time he met and married Vera Lou Courtney.
In 1989, Roy and Vera founded Crews Marine and, along with their grandson David, ran a successful Mercury Outboard Premier Dealership which is still in operation today. Roy was of the Baptist faith, he loved the Lord, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than 40 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, going on cruises, and attending Florida State Football games during the Bowden era.
Roy was preceded in death by: his parents, James Crews Sr. and Vera Ethel Crews Waters; and a sister, Debbie Crews.
He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Vera Lou Courtney Crews; two sons, Roy Mack Crews Jr, and his wife Sharon, of Tallahassee, and Michael David Crews Sr., and his wife Lisa, of Perry; three sisters, Gayle Sharpe, Rosie Hollis, and Delphia Crews; three brothers, James Curtis Crews Jr., Alvin Kenneth Crews, and Wayne Waters; three grandchildren, David, Madison, and Morgan; his soon-to-be-born first great-grandson Crews, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.11, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church in Perry. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
