‘Black Panther’ may be an important milestone, but it’s also a great movie

I know I sound like a broken record when I say it, but it really seems like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) can do no wrong. With DC limping through its attempts to recreate Marvel’s success with lukewarm offerings like “Justice League” and “Suicide Squad” sandwiched around the entertaining “Wonder Woman,” the MCU continues to crank out one great movie after another, delivering three more in 2017 and another three scheduled for this year.

The first of 2018’s MCU offerings is “Black Panther,” the 18th installment in the series and the first with a black superhero in the lead role. The result is a superbly-directed film with interesting characters and a powerful story supported by some wildly entertaining comic book action. It also shows how the ever-expanding combined universe can be used to support each new addition without overshadowing it, like 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
