    James Irvin Hill

    James Irvin Hill, 76, died April 14, 2018, at his home in Perry surrounded by family. James was born March 21, 1942, in Perry, to Charlie Hill and Nannie Mae DeVane Hill.

    James honorably served our country in the United States Army. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. James worked with Buckeye Cellulose for 27 years, retiring as a safety coordinator. He then worked for OSHA, traveling to different outages and shutdowns for 19 years. He was a former county commissioner in Taylor County District 4, and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in District 4. His greatest achievement in life was to be called “Papa”.

    James was preceded in death by: his son, Charles Irvin Hill; his parents, Charlie Hill and Nannie Mae Hill; his brothers, Eldon, Franklin, Cecil, and Roland; and his sister, Virgie Mae Thames.

    He is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Erma Hill; his daughter, Angela Cash (Jimmy); siblings, Ronnie Hill, William Hill, Coretha Smith, Lydia Page, Shelly Johnson and Betty Trussel; grandchildren, Lacey Walsh (Matt), Stacey Johnson and Jacob Cash; great-grandchildren, Leanna Walsh and Adrianne Johnson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Pastor Andy Creel officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterwards in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
