Raindrops rolled like tears down the six-foot-tall granite slabs at Veterans Memorial Park on Memorial Day, dampening each of the 840 names chiseled in stone to honor the Taylor County servicemen and women who dedicated their lives to triumphing over tyranny and fighting for the freedom of family, friends and neighbors of the United States.
On the second side of monument four, you will find the name of U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Raymond Evans, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968 during the second phase of the Tet Offensive, a three-phase coordinated attack by the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army.
