In an attempt to cash in on the lucrative saw palmetto berry market, county commissioners have agreed to advertise for bids from contractors who would harvest berries growing on county property this year – before they can be stolen by unauthorized individuals.
“For the last couple of years on county property all along the Fenholloway River Road (Hampton Springs Road) we have seen all of the palmetto berries being robbed for several years in a row,” Commissioner Jim Moody stated at the county’s June 4 meeting.
