The Taylor County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is inviting local youth to “Dig into Reading” with five weeks of free events featuring pirates, dinosaurs and more.

The entrance to the children’s section of the library is already “in costume” to look like a cave, complete with a pirate map and treasure (shown above).

The program kicks off Thursday, June 20, at 10 a.m. with the help of Klown Kapers, who will bring face painting, balloon art, skits and quick sketches. Subsequent activities will follow each Thursday at 10 a.m. (excluding July 4) with the schedule including: July 28, “Out of My Hands” with magic, juggling and more; July 11, storyteller Paul Peavy; July 18, Pirate Mark Petty with skits “filled with fun” (children are encouraged to come dressed as pirates for this program); July 25, the grand finale featuring the Diggery Dino Dinosaur Show.

Parents or caregivers are required to stay with the children. For more information, call the library at 838-3512.
