County commissioners called a special meeting Saturday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. to declare a “state of emergency” and authorize county workers to perform work in various areas — including private property — to alleviate widespread flooding issues experienced by local homeowners.
According to County Administrator Ted Lakey, higher-than-normal and heavy rainfall over the past several weeks has raised the water table and resulted in “many areas of the county being flooded.”
