    BREAKING NEWS: One killed, another injured in AMTEC explosion

    One person was killed and another was airlifted to an area hospital Friday morning following an explosion at AMTEC Less Lethal Systems, located on Highway 19 North (across from Wayside Park).

    Local law enforcement officials have not released the identity of either victim and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

    The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Communications Center received a report of an explosion at the manufacturing site at approximately 10 a.m.

    The TCSO issued the following the statement around noon Friday: “Multiple first responders were dispatched to the scene to assist. Responders, upon arrival, found that there were two people that had been injured in the incident. One of the injured persons was flown from the scene aboard a medical helicopter for treatment at an area hospital, the other injured person received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

    The area where this incident occurred has been secured and there is not an ongoing threat to any other people. This investigation is ongoing and further information may be limited. We would like to extend our condolences to the family of the injured persons, and to the AMTEC family in their time of loss in this terrible incident,” TCSO Capt. Jimmy Cash said.

    Agencies assisting at the scene included: TCSO, the Perry Police Department, Taylor Fire-Rescue, City of Perry Fire Department and Doctors’ Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services.
