At a meeting just two weeks prior to the Sept. 17 “active school shooter” drill – which left 11 students and staff “dead or wounded” – the Taylor County School Board was asked to consider a list of recommended safety facility updates to harden local campuses against such real-life threats.
The Florida Department of Education (DOE) Office of Safe Schools recently released statewide funding allocations for hardening campuses, and according Taylor County School District Safety Specialists Dan Anderson and Chris Olson, Taylor County will receive $100,000 of those funds.
