Eva Victoria “Vickie” Collins, 78, died Sept. 21, 2018, after a long illness, at her home surrounded by family in Perry. Vickie was born Aug.13, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo., to John Woodland Finney and Eva Victoria Kerr Finney.
Vickie honorably served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1962. She was a 1972 graduate of North Florida Community College and attended Florida State University with a major in speech pathology. She served on the Selective Service Board of Madison County. She enjoyed crocheting, loved attending her church, caring for her husband, was a member of the Sandy Toes Red Hats and taught sign language at her church. She also loved being a “Mimi”. According to her husband she was the epitome of Christianity, being loving, kind and gentle.
Vickie was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Eva Victoria Kerr.
She is survived by: her husband of 56 years, Joe Collins; her children, Sallie Collins, Elizabeth Collins, Luanne and her husband, Bryan Howard, and Alex and his wife, Christiana Kossovich; her granddaughters, Monica Long and Nicole Pylinski, her cousin, Beverly and John Whitehead; five great-grandchildren: Julian Pylinski, Payton and Josslyn Jones, Tori Layne and Paisley Howard.
A graveside service will be held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Tallahassee National Veterans Cemetery with Dr. Jesse Webb and Pastor Justin Webb officiating. The family will receive friends at their home in Perry immediately following the service. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
