Sometimes you get a film in which you can parse out just about every story beat and development, and attribute it to the movie which inspired that piece. It’s not that the film is totally unoriginal, but it definitely wears its inspirations on its sleeve.
That is what we get with “Smallfoot,” the latest film from Warner Animation Group, whose previous films include “The LEGO Movie” and “Storks.” The movie never really does anything better than the movies it is emulating, but somehow the whole is more entertaining than its individual parts might suggest. I would imagine most kids will have fun with “Smallfoot,” and there’s just enough meat on the bone to give parents and other adults something to enjoy as well.
