    Michael makes landfall with 155 mph sustained winds

    Hurricane Michael has made landfall near Mexico Beach with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, making it the strongest hurricane recorded to have hit the Florida Panhandle.

    A six- to nine-foot storm surge is predicted for the Taylor County coast with high tide arriving at Keaton Beach 3:32 p.m. and Steinhatchee at 3:38 p.m.

    Water is already crossing roadways in the Keaton Beach, Steinhatchee and Econfina areas.

    As of 2 p.m., Keaton Beach was experiencing sustained winds of 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

    In Perry, the National Weather Service station at Perry-Foley Airport is reporting sustained winds of 24 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.
