Historical Society hosts walking tour of Old Depot this Nov. 19

    Posted on November 17, 2018

The Taylor County Historical Society’s November meeting will be an on-site tour of the historic Old Depot located on Ellis Street in downtown Perry.

Members and all interested persons are invited to meet at the depot at 6:30 p.m. for a walking tour of the historic building, which marks its 100th anniversary this year.

The Live Oak, Perry and Gulf (LOP&G) train depot was built in 1918.

Main Street Perry, Inc. purchased the structure in 2001 and secured a $150,000 grant to begin an extensive preservation/restoration project. The City of Perry subsequently purchased the building from Main Street, completed the restoration efforts and dedicated the rehabilitated building as the “Perry Historic Station” in 2009.

Today, the building serves as a small business “incubator” and a “gateway” to the downtown area.
