‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ is full of heart and emotion

I mourned when Disney Animation Studios, which literally invented feature-length animated films, stopped creating traditionally-drawn animation. It was the end of a line that began in 1937 with “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and continued through 48 other films until “The Princess and the Frog” in 2009.

Since then, Disney has been producing computer-generated animated movies, and has admittedly found a creative streak that has run nearly unbroken through eight films, including “Tangled,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Wreck-It Ralph,” “Frozen,” “Big Hero 6,” “Zootopia” and “Moana.”

Of these, “Wreck-It Ralph” is my favorite, combining a healthy dose of video-game nostalgia with fully-realized characters, plenty of laughs and more heart than it might have any right possessing. I’ve seen the film at least a half-dozen times since its 2012 release, and I still get hit with the feels each and every time.

As such, “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” was one of my most anticipated films of 2018, and it did not disappoint in the least, although it did take me by surprise.
