Elva Sue Read, 84, died Dec. 5, 2018, in Tallhassee. Sue was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Purvis, Miss. to Burl Johnston and Hettie Matthews Johnston.
Sue was of the Baptist faith and attended Faith Baptist Church. She worked in the lunchroom at Perry Primary for many years, retiring in 1996. She also was a licensed cosmetologist and hair dresser. Sue loved to go camping and attending Gospel sings, and enjoyed traveling with her husband going to see the mountains. She liked it when her boys loaded her up and took her fishing. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by: her husband, James Read, in 2011; her parents, Burl Johnston and Hettie Johnston; and her brother, Burl Johnston, Jr.
She is survived by: her three boys, Phillip (Joyce) Read, David (Yvonne) Read and Timmy Read; four grandchildren, Danny (Tina) Read, Matthew (Yukimi) Read, Ashton (Kevin) Johnson and Brandon Read; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Emmie, Davis, Kyler and Asher; as well as a host of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec., 8, at 2 p.m. at Lake Bird Methodist Church with Bro. Paul Nawlin and Pastor Wallace Holmes officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Pineview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Lake Bird Methodist Church. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
