    Posted on March 13, 2019

Kathleen Anita Broome Tygret was born March 7, 1928, and went to be with Jesus on Dec.. 7, 2018, three months shy of her 91st birthday. She passed away peacefully with her daughter and loyal dog by her side. Although she loved her home of about 40 years outside of Deland, Fla., she spent her last year and a half living with and being cared for by her daughter Kathleen in the mountains of Canton, N.C.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother Lorean McGill, a long-time resident of Perry, Fla., and father Lonnie Broome of Tallahassee, Fla. She was also preceded in death by her brother PFC Charles L. Broome, who gave his life for our country during the Korean War, and one grandson, Glenn Eldon Miller III, of Gainesville, Fla. Kathleen leaves behind her sister, Laurie Woods and family of Perry, Fla., as well as the following seven children: Claudie (Charlie) Barth of Ocala, Fla., Kathleen Abate of Canton, N.C., Chris (Laura) Abate of Santa Margarita, Calif., Lorraine Miller of Fort McCoy, Fla., Abigail Abate of Bartlesville, Okla., Natalie Crawford of Deland, Fla., and Nancy (Joe) Hardin of Earlsboro, Okla.; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

One of Kathleen’s greatest joys was working with her plants and flowers; the seeds and cuttings of which she so freely shared with family and friends. She was also very knowledgeable about healing herbs which she passionately studied most of her long life. Kathleen displayed a deep compassion for animals, specifically her cats, as well as any strays that needed a home. She was an avid reader, as well, enjoying all kinds of books, but especially the Bible. Kathleen was quick to take the needs of others to the Lord in prayer, fully believing in God’s faithfulness. She always exemplified an unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the most needed and powerful legacy one can leave.

A family graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry, Fla., on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 11 a.m.; a celebration of life and remembrance.
