The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued a coastal flood warning for Taylor County and the surrounding Big Bend area through this afternoon (Friday, April 19) due to a line of severe storms that could produce damaging winds and coastal flooding.
“Moderate coastal flooding possible with water levels 2.5 to 4 feet above ground,” NWS forecasters said.
“Water levels will increase starting early Friday morning. Peak water levels are expected Friday afternoon. At Steinhatchee, high tides are 2:38 a.m. and 2:32 p.m. Friday.”
“At 3 feet, water will impact beach access roads in Steinhatchee, Ezell Beach and Keaton Beach. At 4 feet, more significant flooding affects coastal areas between Keaton Beach and Suwannee, impacting more non-elevated structures.”
Additionally, NWS officials are warning the storms, which are expected to pass through the area this morning, could produce tornadoes as well as damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph.
